Jas Carpenter is a Kansas City artist living in Tokyo and 7 years living in Asia. The Fireworks Girls is a painting series that combines his passion for fine art and love of East-Asian and Southeast-Asian cinema.
The paintings juxtapose non-sexual-nudity and fireworks as a kick-in-teeth attention grabber of those who would otherwise eagerly dismiss movies of the East. Paired with movie analysis, the goal of the website is to bridge the cultural distance between the East and West, break past the subtitle barrier, and spread awareness of films that are censored in their home countries.
