2046

(2004, Wong Kar-wai)

I have a confession to make: I get really bored watching Wong Kar-wai’s movies… but I still respect his craft, his history and I stick around because of his committed partnership with Christopher Doyle as a cinematography. Anyways, in 2046, there’s two plots going on. The first is a loose sequel to In the Mood for Love (a pretty good Wong Kar-wai movie) and the second is the sci-fi fiction story that the protagonist is writing. I felt really let down that the movie starts in the sci-fi world but mostly takes place in the former world. The sci-fi world is so fascinating! Many people take a train to the year 2046, where time is endless, but a Japanese guy is the sole person taking the train back from the year 2046. Female androids on the train are symbolic of the writer's estranged lovelife. The movie is not so bad, but two hours of watching the man in the former plot have sex with women then dump them was tiring. Much prefered the androids and their malfunctions.
