I had been searching for this movie for several years and finally found it. Even after finding it I waited many months until I felt I was finally ready to watch it. You know that feeling? Like my life is too focused on dumb things and if I watched a movie like this now, it may not click. I’m glad I waited because it was well worth it. Rinko Kikuchi (Yuriko) is my favorite actor/actress and I am so surprised by her talent even in early films. Her style of acting just emotionally destroys me every time; tears always flow. The story is simple. A cook working in his dad’s diner takes in a traveler whose boyfriend just dumped her. Through their interaction their sort of hidden childish behaviors emerge. They both are essentially “adult children”.
