A Scene at the Sea

(1991, Takeshi Kitano)

When I watched this movie, I cried the whole time. I didn’t really have any reason for it, it’s a simple movie about an aspiring surfer and his girlfriend. Both are deaf and are most likely together only because of this connection so they have a lot to overcome as they learn about each other. I guess a combination of my personal stress and the way this movie was made just brought out my tears. Kitano does that, especially when Hisaishi scores the film.
