The Isle

(2000, Kim Ki-Duk)

I have a strong dislike for South Korean romcoms so I am overjoyed when I find a movie that I can truly enjoy. There’s basically 4 South Korean movies I love and Kim Ki-Duk directed 3 of them. This story follows a mute woman who runs a fishing resort. A lot of shady stuff happens out here including the haunting stuff that she does. Very creepy at times and a sharp contrast to the more popular movies from "Hollywood" of South Korea (Hallyuwood?).

An animated gif of a scene from the film 'The Isle' of a man and woman in an embrace sitting on a fishing house floating on the water. The man is fanning the inside of the woman's legs. A close-up screenshot of a haunting woman's face swimming underwater. From the Korean film 'The Isle'.
